In 2019, a new EU Parliament and EU Commission were elected.
The President of the European Commission has declared, in a mission letter, a plan for an integrated agenda for food and health. Both Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and the ‘Farm to Fork’ strategy for sustainable food systems have been announced as high priorities on the agenda. Another high priority on the EU Agenda in 2020 is the front-of-pack nutrition labelling scheme, which was launched in France to improve the quality of nutritional information and make informed choices easier. Other European countries have also taken up the scheme, and the potential of creating a common EU-level nutrition labelling scheme is currently under debate in relevant EU fora, e.g. the European Parliament, and the European Association for Public Health and the European Consumer Organization (BEUC).
